About The Artist

I am a visual artist and jewelry designer living in Michigan's beautiful Upper

Peninsula with my husband, seven year-old daughter, and four fluffy cats.

I love the fact that my jewelry and art can find people who love and cherish

it as much as I loved creating it.

I don't like to think that I chose art as a career but rather that art chose me

since I've been involved in art since early childhood.  I am mostly self taught

but I have taken several painting and art history courses all throughout my

life and received an Associates in Art with a concentration in painting in May

of 2007 from Bay de Noc Community College.  My painting instructor was a

huge inspiration while in college and she gave me the courage and skills to

become the artist that I am today.

For my jewelry, I love to use copper and brass wire for their warm and earthy color especially when oxidized.  I also prefer to use earth toned colors using Czech glass, gemstones, Swarovski crystal and pearls.  Of course being largely inspired by nature, I choose to use floral themes, leaves, birds, trees, and similar subjects.

For artwork, I use several techniques and a variety of mediums to portray the images in my work.  I use acrylic paint, powdered graphite and copper leaf in most of my art.  I also use antiquing and patina finishes on my copper leafing and found objects for my collages.  I choose to use floral close-ups and trees as my main subject matter for a variety of reasons.  Flowers are usually enjoyed as a collective instead of looked at for their individual, unique splendor.  By depicting a single flower close up, the viewer can easily see the flower's intimate beauty as a single subject.  Trees dominate my artwork because they represent so many wonderful things besides simply being picturesque.  They symbolize wisdom, strength, life, and resilience among many other things.  Being from Michigan, apple trees dot the landscape and their twisted, weathered forms make  exquisite subjects for my art.

My work has been shown in local galleries and juried shows since 2003.  My art has also won several awards ranging from First Place Purchase Prize to Honorable Mention at the William Bonifas Arts Center, Bay de Noc Community College, and the DeVos Art Museum at Northern Michigan University.  My artwork is in a public collection at Bay de Noc Community College and in several private collections as well.

I currently attend the Eskymo Christmas Craft Show, locally here in Escanaba every November.
