Jewelry and Art Care

Caring For Copper and Brass Wire Jewelry

  • All of my solid copper or brass jewelry is nickel and lead free and has been treated with Renaissance Wax.  It is a museum quality product designed to protect and preserve the natural beauty and patina of metals and will protect your jewelry for years to come.  It also acts as a skin barrier for those with allergies, and should not rub off under normal wear.  Jewelry without a patina finish will eventually develop a beautiful patina over time as well.
  • To clean, use nothing more than mild soap and water.  This will not affect or remove the wax.  This is also safe for cleaning pearls and gemstones.  Please do not use commercial jewelry or copper cleaners.
  • You can also use a lint free cloth to bring the shine back into your jewelry, but take care not to bend any wire.
  • The wax does protect your jewelry, but I do not recommend wearing it while showering or swimming.

Caring for Silk Jewelry

  • Silk is a luxurious and easy to care for fabric ribbon.  All you need to do is wash it gently by hand as needed with mild soap and cool water.
  • Pat it dry, do not wring.  Place it somewhere to completely air dry out of direct sunlight to keep the color vibrant.
  • If your silk ribbon jewelry has any pearls or wire/metal parts attached to it, it’s still safe to wash by hand using the above method.
  • If your un-edged ribbon is getting a little too unruly with fraying, you can carefully nip the fraying ends with sharp scissors.  Just take care not to cut too close to the ribbon itself.
  • I would also recommend removing it before showering or swimming to keep it looking new.

Caring for Scrabble Art Pendants

  • Although the resin is water resistant, it is not waterproof.  Please remove your pendant before showering or swimming!
  • Try to apply hairspray, lotions, and perfume or body spray before putting on your pendant.  Chemicals can cause the surface to look dull over time.
  • To clean, use a damp cloth.  Try to avoid paper towels as the scratchy texture may leave surface scratches in the resin or dull the surface.
  • If your pendant’s surface appears dull even after a good cleaning, it could be from a buildup of natural skin oils, hairspray, or lotions.  First, try rubbing a bit of vinegar on it with a cotton ball or soft cloth, please do not use paper.  If that doesn’t work, dry it and if you're comfortable, spray a gentle coating of a clear gloss non-yellowing varnish available in any hardware store or use clear nail enamel.

Cleaning and Care

  • Dust as needed using a dry rag or duster.  Try to avoid spraying any kind of cleaner or dust remover on it.
  • Please do not hang or place near direct heat sources, open flames such as candles, or in a place that gets continuous direct sunlight.  The varnish does protect from sun damage but prolonged, continuous exposure can fade the image over time.

Storage

  • Wrap canvas in a cut to fit brown paper bag or paper packaging filler that is not glossy.  You can also use a lint free cloth or pillowcase/bed sheet.  Just try to avoid towels as they tend to leave fuzz that can be hard to remove.  Please do not use newspaper with print on it as the ink may transfer or smear.
  • Store in a cool place away from direct sunlight.  Do not store in hot rooms with little ventilation, near direct heat sources, or in freezing temperatures.  Constant high heat or extreme cold over time can cause cracking or other damage to the painted surface.
  •  If transporting by car, please do not leave in hot areas such as the dash board or rear window.
